Create an Action Pack!

Step #1: Choose a theme

  1. Choose a theme for the new Action Pack. It can be anything you'd like! A cause or issue topic, geographical region, population subset, type of action, anything at all.
  2. Review the list of active and proposed Action Packs to see if your Action Pack already exists.
  3. If it's on the list but isn't active yet, contact actionpacks@socialactions.com for an update on the status.
  4. If it isn't on the list, move onto Step #2.

Step #2: Create a Twitter account for your new Action Pack

  1. Go to Twitter.com and select "sign up"
  2. Name the account and choose a handle that reflects the theme you chose (no more than 15 characters). Example name and handle combinations are Poverty Actions (@povertyactions) and Human Rights Actions (@act4humanrights)
  3. Enter an email address for the account. If you don't have a personal or organizational email address setup for the account, please email actionpacks@socialactions.com. We will gladly setup an email alias for the new action pack.
  4. Upload an avatar for the new account. We encourage you to find and use Creative Commons images that match the issue area, region, or theme for the new action pack. You can find Creative Commons images using the advanced search option on Flickr. If you cannot find an image or don't have the time, you can also use the Social Actions logo as the avatar.
  5. Enter a bio for the new account.  The bio should read something like, "Take action on THEME-related actions." If your avatar uses an image from another source, please credit the image source in the bio.

Step #3: Feed the Twitter account with actions

  1. Go to Twitterfeed.com and sign in or register for an account
  2. Select "Create new feed"
  3. Select "Authenticate with username and password"
  4. Enter the username and password for the new Twitter account you just created
  5. In a new window or tab, go to search.socialactions.com
    1. Use the advanced search to submit a query that matches your theme, selecting "Most Recent" in the "Order" pull-down menu
    2. On the search results page, click on the RSS feed icon in the URL bar of your browser. This will change the URL to an RSS feed version of the search results.
    3. Copy the URL for the RSS feed into your clipboard
  6. Back on Twitterfeed.com, enter the URL for the RSS feed you just obtained on search.socialactions.com
  7. Enter a name for the feed
  8. Click on advanced options
  9. For update frequency, select 'Every 30 minutes' and up to '5' new updates at a time
  10. For prefix, enter 'Take action:'
  11. For source, enter 'socialactions'
  12. Select 'Create feed'

Step #4: Spread the word

  1. Send us a tweet or an email with a link to the new Action Pack. We'll create a profile for the Action Pack directory so others will know about it, too!
  2. Be sure to...
